Edmonton-Banff (3 Day/2 Night) – Rockies Experience of a Lifetime

Day 3

gondola

Melissa's relaxed atmosphere is an ideal setting for this morning’s breakfast. Melissa's delightful and unique building has been a landmark and local favourite in Banff since 1928. Designed and built as a restaurant, Melissa's is locally owned and operated and proud to be a part of the heritage of Banff National Park. They take great pride in offering fresh and "made from scratch" items on all menus. Melissa's has been voted "Favourite" Banff Restaurant for the past seven consecutive years by the Calgary Herald Readers Choice Awards.

Your first stop today is the Sulphur Mountain Gondola. Here you’ll take an eight minute ride in a glass enclosed gondola to the 2288 m (7500 ft) summit of Sulphur Mountain, where three levels of outdoor observation decks offer a panoramic 360 degree view of Banff and the surrounding area.

From here you stop to visit Hoodoo Lookoff , Hidden Corner and Bow Falls on your way out of Banff to begin your journey home along the Icefields Parkway. Not far past lake Louise, you will find yourself at 2,068 m (6,785 ft.) above sea level, at Bow Summit. This is the highest point on the Parkway and offers one of the best mountain panoramas in the world at Peyto Lake viewpoint.

Then, check out this menu for lunch, AAA Alberta Beef Cline River steak; Baked Potato with all the fixin’s; Caesar Salad; Ranch style Baked Beans; Ranch Rolls; Dessert; Coffee & Tea. Even the hungriest of cowboys and cowgirls will be satisfied with this meal. While the BBQ’s are inside the 36’ donut tent, seating is available either under the canvas or under the sun.

Now, the greatest thrill of all awaits you. You’ll launch from the heliport at an elevation of 4386 feet (1400m). Then, you’ll soar over Cline Pass at 9000ft (2900 m), before flying by the Cline, Lion & Lioness glaciers. And, just when you think that it can’t get any more exciting, you’ll view a spectacular 900 foot waterfall flowing from two aqua green lakes!

You can now settle back into your comfortable motor coach seat and enjoy the scenery as you continue your drive through the mountains on your way to the prairies east of the Rockies. Beyond the former Hudson’s Bay post community of Rocky Mountain House, you head out across rich, rolling farmlands to join the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and the final leg of today’s journey back to Edmonton.
